Disc, Peak, and Stretch

Client: Landscape Forms, 2020

These sunshade designs were conceived through a distinctly architectural lens. Each of the three has an iconic silhouette to complement the space without overwhelming the landscape designer’s signature. The shapes were chosen to offer a range of expression from geometric and abstract to familiar and traditional, all with a modern simplicity. The brief called for a platform approach: to create a family of new forms that would offer sculptural variety, while sharing common parts. A new structure based on a classic post and beam language allowed for a radical simplification of the manufacturing with reduced labor costs. The new assembly provides a calm interior space unobstructed by hardware. They are entirely metal, are fixed to the ground, and do not articulate like typical umbrellas.
